We regularly create bespoke hardware as well as smaller individual components for our clients. Most recently we designed and created an elegant, timeless and extremely robust full set of sliding / rolling barn door hardware items.
Our team devised a kit of brass components that are suitable for many different types of door (standard through to heavy doors) to enable the doors to be hung from a track and rolled left and right in parallel with the wall. This mechanism has its roots firmly embedded in history, but the humble principle of a ‘barn door’ which is associated with the sliding/rolling action to reveal the aperture is quite the design statement and quite a favourite with interior designers all over the world.
Rolling barn style doors offer several benefits, the most obvious being their space saving properties. Where hinged doors require space in which to swing open, sliding doors operate sideways. However, it’s important to consider how the bottom of the doors will interact with the wall or skirting board when they’re rolled left and right. Having some kind of wheel or foot that acts as a guide is crucial to help avoid accidents and to prevent the doors from swinging and potentially banging against walls and woodwork.

Accompanying the track and rollers therefore is also a simple solution to ‘guide’ the doors at their base, preventing the doors from pitching or leaning inwards. These door guides are designed to roll along the skirting board or flat wall.
Made from solid brass, we prepared the whole set of barn door hardware components in an aged finish, bringing a depth of character to the pieces. (This hardware can be prepared in a variety of finishes – just talk with our team to find out more.)
*It must be noted that not all projects will be suitable for such systems. Our rolling barn door guides are designed for use where the wall or skirting board along which the doors are intended to roll, are straight. For any room that deviates from this, we can suggest other systems such as a floor track etc. Please look at one of our ladder projects where we designed and created a track for a rolling ladder that was required to be mounted vertically, in a similar way to a door. While this was for a library ladder, the principle of having a safe rolling mechanism remains the same.
