Where the magic happens

Welcome to Our Devon Workshop

Set amidst the rolling hills of Devon, England, our 8,000-square-foot workshop is a place where traditional craftsmanship, innovative thinking, and meticulous attention to detail come together. Within our facility, you’ll find distinct areas dedicated to metal cutting, welding, woodworking, and storage. Central to our work is the patination room—where true artistry comes to life—and a dust-free finishing room that ensures each piece is perfectly waxed, sealed, and left to air dry and harden in ideal conditions.

Our Story & Heritage

Our journey began with Andrew Nebbett, who ran an antique shop in Church Street, Marylebone, London. There, his talented team restored the unique antiques he sourced and sold.

Andrew’s passion for craftsmanship was inspired by his grandfather, who served as the Head of Antiques and Interior Design at Harrods for an impressive 36 years.

Over time, clients began requesting entirely new pieces rather than just restored antiques, prompting the evolution into Andrew Nebbett Designs Ltd. This shift allowed us to apply time-honoured restoration skills to the creation of bespoke, contemporary commissions.

Our Craftsmen

Our Team

Our small team of highly skilled craftsmen brings over 250 years of combined experience in woodwork, metalwork, colouring, and hand patination.

Originating from diverse backgrounds, many of our artisans have honed their expertise through the restoration of fine art and antiques, while others have developed their skills through self-directed learning and innovative problem-solving. This blend of formal education and hands-on experience fosters an environment where tradition and innovation coexist seamlessly.

Experience and Background

With a rich history in both formal academic qualifications and self-taught mastery, our craftsmen excel in various disciplines. Their extensive experience ensures that every project benefits from time-honoured practices and original techniques.

Whether through problem-solving or developing unique methods, our team continuously evolves, maintaining a perfect balance between preserving traditional craftsmanship and embracing modern advancements.

Expertise and Craftsmanship

Specialising  in a broad range of expert skills—including cabinet making, precise metalworking, welding, metal plating, and the ageing of both metal and wood surfaces—our workshop is equipped to create bespoke items that meet the exacting standards of our clients.

Whether designing solutions for period properties or modern spaces, we adeptly utilise traditional hand tools, vintage machinery, and select modern processes to maintain authenticity and character in every piece we craft.

Our Commitment to Quality

From accomplished cabinet makers to expert hand finishers and metalworkers, each member of our team contributes to the unparalleled quality that sets us apart. We are dedicated to ensuring that every commission not only meets but exceeds expectations, delivering pieces that are both beautiful and enduring.

Our commitment to excellence guarantees that your bespoke items will be cherished for generations to come.

Our Clients

We are proud to work with a wide variety of clients, including architects, private homeowners, retailers, hotels, restaurants, and office developments. No matter the scale or style of the project, we maintain an unwavering dedication to quality and detail. We strive to ensure that every client enjoys this same level of satisfaction and confidence in our work.

We keep clients informed at every step, sending regular progress photographs and even inviting their input, especially during the patination stage, where fine-tuning the finish can truly personalise a piece.

“I recently had the pleasure of working with Andrew Nebbett Designs for the installation of two special brass shower screens, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. From start to finish, their professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to quality were evident in every step of the process.

The installation was flawless, and the craftsmanship truly exceeded my expectations. It’s rare to find a team so dedicated to both customer service and delivering top-notch work. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for exceptional service and expert installation!”

How we work

Projects and Signature Techniques

We pride ourselves on devising elegant solutions for challenging briefs. Our workshop avoids mass production and instead focuses on handcrafting unique, thoughtfully made pieces. We’re known for tackling distinctive commissions—recently, we created bespoke brass shower doors complete with glazing for a Grade II* listed property, maintaining historical integrity while introducing something new and beautiful.

Philosophy and Approach

We believe in the importance of timeless design. By combining a wide spectrum of old and new techniques, we ensure that every commission meets not only the client’s immediate requirements but also endures gracefully over time. We relish the chance to design from scratch, develop concepts, and produce items that truly stand the test of time.

Our Mission and Vision

We specialise in producing high-end, innovative design solutions for architects, commercial developers, and discerning homeowners. Our aim is always to provide that “wow” factor—pieces that not only serve their purpose but also elevate the atmosphere of any interior. Each commission is treated as an opportunity to blend traditional skills with fresh, contemporary design thinking.

Sourcing sustainability

Materials and Quality Assurance

We work with an extensive array of materials, ranging from all types of wood to metals like brass, copper, zinc, pewter, and steel, as well as mirrored and standard glass. Sourcing only the highest quality, predominantly UK-based materials, we carefully oversee every stage of production—from the initial selection to the final installation. Our team uses traditional methods to create unique pieces, employing hand tools and vintage machinery alongside modern processes. This approach ensures that every finished product proudly upholds our British-made standard.

Sustainability and Innovation

Respect for the environment underpins our methods. We operate a log burner fuelled by timber from our own woodland and benefit from solar panels for eco-friendly electricity generation. Balancing historic craftsmanship with modern environmental responsibility, we continually adapt and evolve, using both age-old and cutting-edge processes to achieve the perfect result for each commission
