An international interior design company engaged Andrew Nebbett Designs to create a new piece for their studio. A stunning rolling library ladder and fixed rail system in gun barrel steel with real silver-plated features, was commissioned to compliment the beautiful hand-made American black walnut bookcase unit.
The warm tones and subtle grain of the American black walnut modern classic bookcase is an eye-catching display, at the main entrance. The full height and bold body of the bookcase exhibits the finest of cabinetry skills. The sharp raised and fielded door design, with subtle beading detail to the frame, is finished with delicate antique bronze hinges and handles.
The stepped section (break-front) within the centre of the bookcase is framed by a set of double doors at each end. An inspired Chippendale antique bronze pattern applied to the double door apertures, gives this piece its unique style.
Bringing this piece to life Andrew Nebbett Designs produced a beautiful rolling library ladder system, which glides effortlessly along the fixed rail, spanning the breadth of the bookcase. Through this collaboration of great design and exceptional craftsmanship, the impressive pieces truly complement each other, bringing theatre and excitement to the space.
Due to the intricate stepped design of the bookcase and predetermined fixing points for this expansive piece, attention to detail was key. Through the aid of 3D Visualisation software and our experienced team, detailed calculations were required and specific materials were selected to ensure adequate railing fixing details and strength.
The smooth dark gun barrel tubular fixed rail runs horizontally across the top section of the bookcase. The library ladder is finished with stunning silver-plated end caps with contrasting soft curves. The concealed silver-plated wall fixings are equally positioned onto the vertical face of the bookcase columns, so as not to detract from the elegant beading detail of the cabinetry.
The tubular ladder frame finished in a strong dark gun barrel colour mirrors the rail above. The castor feet, central rungs and end caps at the top of the bespoke library ladder are a distinctive bright silver-plated finish. This highlights the key features! The bespoke finishes contrast wonderfully with the American black walnut bookcase unit.
The custom-made solid brass rolling carriages, plated in silver, are fixed to the top section of the tubular ladder frame. The ladder is designed and constructed to the correct ladder angle for comfortable use, the carriages are fitted to the rail, ensuring no friction between the elements. This enables the ladder to glide effortlessly along the full span of the fixed rail.
The bright silver-plated castors have bespoke positioned wheels integrated into the feet, enabling the ladder to move freely over the floor, making it appear almost ‘as light as a feather’.
