We were contacted via Instagram by interior design company, Covet Noir, who had a very specific idea for a bespoke rolling library ladder.
Having looked through our social media posts, the company felt we would be the perfect fit and after initial discussions, sent through their designs for us to assess.
With a contemporary aesthetic in mind, rather than suggesting our more traditional/classical components, we proposed our modern and sleek style of fixings. The next stage was to create 3D renders through our 3D visualisation service to help everyone involved fully realise the designs, providing them with the opportunity to confirm the dimensional information before production could commence.
The library ladder stringers (sides) were to be constructed in steel, with the rungs, carriages and rolling castor feet in solid brass. To achieve the black colour specified in the brief, and in keeping with the client’s black internal doors, we applied a patinated gun-barrel finish to the steel, and a patinated dark bronze finish to the brass.
Fitted with a retractable mechanism, this ensured the ladder could be stored upright against the bookcase when not in use, opening up the available floorspace.
The clients were incredibly happy with the finished ladder and in lieu of a final installation image, they very kindly sent us the most amazingly detailed 3D render, illustrating the location of the library ladder, seemingly very at home in its contemporary surroundings.
